Farming equipment has been a major part of Fiat's business from the early years and it acquired the New Holland Company in 1991 to claim 20 per cent of the world market in farming and agricultural machinery. Fiat made its first tractor, the 702, in 1918 and continued to make farm and earthmoving machinery under its own name until the mid-1990s when it merged its tractor line with that of New Holland, which it had acquired in 1991. Fiat have one of considerable time in histories of tractor manufacture, running from this first model, the 702 of 1919 to the present day. A 1980 Fiat 640 DT3 tractor being transported by truck. The 640 DT3 was a 4 wheel drive tractor manufactured from 1975 to the early 1980s. It had a 4 cylinder turbo diesel motor. A 1994 Fiat F115 tractor. Manufactured from 1993-96, this 115hp, 6 cylinder, 4-wheel drive tractor was a favorite medium-sized model suited to a wide range of use. The Fiatagri/New Holland G190 was a 190HP 4-wheel drive tractor that was manufactured during the transitional period after Fiat acquired Ford's tractor manufacturing division. For a while after the 1990 merger, identical tractors appeared in Fiat or Ford New Holland colours depending on where they were being marketed. The lines finally became New Holland when the brand became part of the CNH Global group in 1999.
